Since the economic decline of 2008, and the various law enforcement operations that seem to focus primarily on the lowest income portions of the population. All these factors culminate into the dramatic increase of homelessness of more than triple the number of people living without minimum housing conditions since the 2010 census. This overflow of homeless citizens into the homeland park region of Anderson County South Carolina has impacted the community in many significant ways. The ever-increasing number of beggars and panhandlers can be witnessed on any given day at most any major intersection in the area. the retail shops and restaurants in the homeland park area have all but vanished in the poverty-stricken community. With nothing left but mostly vacant run down business structures. The majority of the vacant structures are make-shift shelters for the homeless to nest in, until the county or whomever the vandals may be, that typically finds a random act of arson to come and set fire to the abandoned buildings as a method to helping the law enforcement maintain a healthy grip on the poor destitute individuals, as a means of keeping them out in the open, so that they can shake them down as often as they feel compelled to do so. Which happens to be almost every night 7 nights a week.
